Where are your urns made?
Our urns will always be manufactured in America. Our plant is located in Wisconsin. And will always be manufactured in America.
What are Maple Nail Urns made from?
Our urns are all made from USA-sourced hardwood. We always buy lumber from the northern region primarily in Wisconsin and Minnesota. The reason is that the cold winter climate and shorter growing season produce harder and more figured grain structures.
Where do you source your materials from?
We go out of our way to use as much American-made product as logically possible including the abrasives and adhesives used in the manufacturing process. We use Lumber primarily from Wisconsin and Minnesota.
What is a Maple Nail? Do you use wooden nails?
I chose the name Maple Nail because of the signature corner splines that add structural integrity and beauty. The corner splines lock the corners in an attractive way.
Do you use wooden nails?
Typically not, but we have built and can build urns with wooden nails rather than screws. Some cemeteries have rules of no steel and we can accommodate that. It is a custom build and will require communication with John at Maple Nail Urns. Typically this construction is requested for “green” cemeteries.
How thick is the wood used to build the urns?
All lumber is purchased in mill thickness so it typically starts at about an inch thick and then finished at ¾ inch thick. That includes the top bottom and main body of the urn assuring years of structural stability.
What is the finish on the urns?
All urns are sprayed with about 3 or 4 coats of Lacquer. I use a medium luster finish so it matches most home interiors. It has a light shine to the eye and a smooth finish to the hand.
Do I have to use a temporary black urn box in a maple nail urn?
No, it is not required. The cremains can be placed in the wooden urn as long as the remains are in a sealed plastic bag, although most funeral homes will provide a temporary urn box if requested.
I need to take my loved one home on an airplane What do I do?
You will need an FAA-approved temporary urn container that can be purchased on the Maple Nail site. I highly recommend that you have a conversation with the Airline you will be traveling on to ensure no complications with the TSA.
Is there any room for memorabilia in the urn like pictures or letters?
Yes, there is room for some special items. I can say about a ¼ of an inch or so. If you plan on including extra memories, photos, and or special items I recommend talking to John and possibly considering a companion urn allowing plenty of room when used for one person.
